What’s the Deal with Contemporary Art?

 

Tina Rivers Ryan joined the Albright-Knox Gallery in 2017. Her curatorial projects have included Introducing Tony Conrad: A Retrospective, We the People: New Art from the Collection, Aria Dea, and Kawita Vatanjyabkur: Foul Play.

From 201to 2017, Ryan was Curatorial Research Assistant in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. She held internships at MOMA/PSI, the New Museum, and the ICA Boston.

Dr. Ryan taught courses in contemporary art  at MoMa, Columbia University, and the Pratt Institute. She has written for Art Forum, Art in America, and Framework: The Journal of Cinema and Media.

As a specialist in postwar and contemporary art, Ryan is particularly interested in the relationship between technology and the body, informed by her experience as a disabled person who relies upon digital medical devices.

In 2016, Tina Ryan received her PhD from the Department of Art History and Archeology at Columbia University.
