Timothy Egan is a third-generation Westerner, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, a popular columnist and the author of eleven nonfiction books.
He was part of the New York Times team that won a Pulitzer Prize for the series, “How Race is Lived in America.” Mr. Egan wrote a regular NYT opinion column on politics, environment and the American West. His best-selling books have inspired popular documentaries, have been taught in many classrooms and have won many awards.
An early book, Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward S. Curtis, was awarded the 2013 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. It tells the story of a famous portrait photographer who, at the age of 33, devoted the next three decades documenting the stories and rituals of more than eighty North American tribes. The book is now being developed into a feature film.
