Nicholas Rosenlicht

Nicholas Rosenlicht earned a degree in Biology of Natural Resources at UC Berkeley and an MD degree from Case Western Reserve University of Medicine; his internship and residency in psychiatry were at UCLA. He has taught at several universities, primarily UC Berkeley and UCSF.

His specialty is the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep problems, substance use disorders, and ADHD. He also provides couples and relationship counseling. During Rosenlicht’s 23 years at UCSF he worked primarily at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center. He founded the UCSF-VAMC Mood Disorders Clinic and was its director for 15 years.

Rosenlicht’s book My Brother’s Keeper: The Untold Stories Behind the Business of Mental Health—and How to Stop the Abandonment of the Mentally Ill, explores our understanding of mental health care. He explains and how it fits into other social and economic forces—and he proposes an effective and compassionate new framework for healing.
