State Policy to Implement Common Core Standards in Education: It Changes Almost Everything
A professor emeritus of political science at San Jose State University, Larry Gerston examines the public policy making process at the national and state levels of government. His Public Policy Making in a Democratic Society: A Guide to Civic Engagement has been heralded for defining “hands on” citizen participation. Gerston’s Not So Golden After All: The Rise and Fall of California, has been praised for comprehensively addressing the unique phenomenon known as California.
Gerston’s twelfth academic book, Reviving Citizenship Engagement: Policies to Renew National Community, argues that without major political, economic, and social changes, the United States will become a second class nation.
Recently, Gerston published his first children’s book, The Road to Hana, which won an award at the Pacific Rim Book Festival in 2016. In it he challenges the reader to appreciate the virtues of the journey over the destination. Although the book is written for children, it is intended for adults.
Larry Gerston appears twice weekly as the political analyst at NBC Bay Area television. He also has been interviewed on NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, BBC, NPR, and CNN’s Inside Politics.
