Shakespeare Four Hundred Years On
Dr Michael Warren is Professor Emeritus of English Literature, University of California, Santa Cruz. Over a thirty-three year career he taught courses concerning Shakespeare and the playwrights of his time, English Literature to 1800 and Modern British Dramatists as well as general introductory courses for incoming students. A former president of the Shakespeare Association of America, he focused in his research and publications primarily on the nature of the earliest printed texts of Shakespeare’s works, on the forms in which we read them now and on the relation of both to performance. He has served as Textual Consultant to Shakespeare Santa Cruz since its first season in 1982 and every year he works as a dramaturg for one of its Shakespeare productions.
