Sales and Marketing Executive, turned avid outdoorsman
Hidden Gems Among Bay Area Parks
A native of Chicago, Berens received his initial academic and job experience in the Midwest. In 1985 he moved to Sausalito and became Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Zellerbach Paper Company, later the International Paper Company. His path to the outdoors started in earnest during the pandemic. Bored with going to the gym, he visited more than 100 parks in the region and took lots of photos. The experience prompted him to research the history of these places. Whether small like Bol Park or large like Almaden Quicksilver, nearly every park yielded an interesting kernel of history.
