Theatrical Writer, Producer, and Director, and Theater and Film Critic
Fred Astaire – A Musical Presentation
Bonnie Weiss was born to make an impact on the world with words. She astounded her family by beginning to talk at the age of eight months and sing entire songs just after her first birthday. She was voted the fastest and best reader in her first-grade class and worked her way through college writing song lyrics and comedy routines for up-and-coming entertainers. She holds a BA in Theatre Education and an MA in Counseling from New York University.
Bonnie’s love of verbal expression extends to her passion for brilliant and moving melodies and lyrics. In fact, she is a walking encyclopedia on American musical theatre. In this vein she has produced and hosted her own radio show, Front Row Center, and has served as writer, producer and director for ten sold-out Bay Area cabaret shows. Bonnie has been a theatre and film critic on KQED, KALW & KEST radio and recently served as West Coast theatre reviewer for TheaterWeek and Boz magazines. Her current reviews and feature stories can be read in Stage Directions, a national magazine for theatre educators, and in The Sondheim Review.
Bonnie currently teaches courses in musical theatre history and appreciation at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, plus San Francisco State and Dominican Universities. She has also taught at U.C. Berkeley Extension and the Colleges of Marin and San Mateo. She is Founder of Musical Theatre Lovers United, a club for Broadway and Hollywood musical buffs
